This E-Home has a 2.4 KW grid connect solar power system .The solar Array is facing true north and has been inclined to 37.5 degrees (the latitude of Melbourne).

The lighting throughout the house has been fitted with compact fluorescent down lights (CFL), replacing conventional halogen down lights. With the use of zone switching we were able to create a lighting effect that is similar to a conventional halogen lighting layout (which uses a dimmer). The External lighting has been fitted with CFL and LED’s replacing Incandescent and halogen lamps.

The selected solar hot water system comprises of 24 evacuated tubes with the added feature of glycol (anti-freezing agent). The system has a 270L tank which has been selected to suit the house and number of occupants. The system also comprises of a 3.2 KW instantaneous electric boost which will heat water when there is lack of sun exposure (eg: winter). Due to the unavailability of gas to the property an electric boost was the only option.

The insulation in the ceiling and the walls has an R (insulating factor) rating of 3.5, giving the house great insulation integrity. The house has been fitted with double glaze windows allowing the heat in winter to be retained and the heat in summer time to be repelled. The flooring has been lined with insulating foil that will retain heat and repel the cold
